In dairy cattle and pig industry, female offspring is more valuable than male offspring. Naturally, the birth ratio between male and female is 50:50. Sperm is the main key for determine male or female offspring, each sperm contain sex chromosome, X or Y chromosome. The sperm X chromosome make female offspring whereas sperm Y chromosome make male offspring. If we can separate the X and Y chromosome before doing artificial insemination it can increase the number of female offspring. The most efficient way to separate X and Y sperm is the use of modern flow cytometry- cell sorting technique; however, this technology is not available in Thailand and it is still impracticable in pig industry worldwide. So, our team have developed more practicable method and equipment that can increase the sex ratio from 50% female to 70% female. These technologies will help improve pig and cattle industry in Thailand.ษตรกร
