The name of the college was received royal grace from His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej for part of the name in Her Royal Highness Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Walailak
It is a college under the Walailak University located in Tambon Thai Buri, Amphoe Tha Sala, Nakhon Si Thammarat. Walailak University is a state university and under the supervision of the government. Walailak University is the comprehensive University that provides teaching and learning covering the fields of social sciences, humanities, science and technology. His Highness signed the Walailak University Act, 1992 and the university regarded this day as the founding day of Walailak University. The first day of teaching was on May 28, 1998.

Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program (International Program)
Established in 2017, it is the first international veterinary medicine program in Thailand that provides teaching in English. It was accredited by Walailak University Council on September 9, 2017. It is a 6-year program with 307 credits in the tri-semester system. The objective is to produce graduates working in the country and take care of foreign entrepreneurs including going to work as an expert in key ASEAN countries in line with the changes in the global public health trend. This is a mechanism for raising the level of veterinary education to the international level. There is an animal hospital under the college operation. Students will gain knowledge from highly skilled teachers and have learned and practiced in real situations.
