Walailak University led by Associate Professor Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice President, and Clinical Professor Dr. Suvichai Rojanasathien, Dean of Akkhraratchakumari Veterinary College (AVC), welcomes exchange students from James Cook University (JCU), Australia, today at Khao Luang Chamber, Cooperative Education Building.

The orientation held by the Center for International Affairs (CIA) at Khao Luang Chamber featured a video presentation of Walailak university, a brief video presentation of Thai culture, and an experience sharing on life and living at Walailak University.

James Cook University and Walailak University have a memorandum of understanding (MOU). During the Covid-19 pandemic, arranging student mobility programs were challenging. However, the AVC had set up an online teaching program, inviting JCU lecturers to teach their students. And now since the pandemic begins to subside, the exchange program between the two universities has started.

“This program will provide a chance for students to learn about clinical practices in poultry production and wildlife medicine according to Thailand’s circumstances,” said Clinical Professor Dr. Suvichai. “Not only will this program enhance your academic excellence, but will also provide you with the opportunity to know more about our rich Thai culture,” Assistant Professor Dr. Patnarin Supakporm, Director of CIA, added.

After the orientation at Khao Luang Chamber, the exchange students together with staff from AVC and CIA visited Walailak University Hospital, and the Small Animal Teaching Hospital, Akkhraratchakumari Veterinary College. On this occasion, Clinical Professor Dr. Suvichai Rojanasathien briefed the students about the Small Animal Teaching Hospital which provides treatments, sterilization, vaccination services, and health care for animals and pets. The hospital is equipped with edge-cutting technology such as digital X-rays equipment, Ultrasound machines, and Laser machines. “There are 15-20 cases a day here at the hospital. And we are planning to expand our affiliate to downtown Nakhon si Thammarat so that more people can access our service in the future,” said Dean Suvichai.

After that, the group of students was given a tour of Walailak Botanic Park – the largest university park in Thailand – with an area of more than 200 hectares. The park preserves many types of tropical plants as well as several herbs that are a source of knowledge in pharmacy and medicine. The students also got a chance to enjoy the beautiful greeneries of Walailak university, WU reservoir, and the Khao Luang Mountain range scenery while walking on the skywalk at Bota Sky Tower.
