Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College’s hospital brought to the local veterinary community of southern Thailand Prof.Dr.Stefan Unterer a world-class expert in small animal ultrasonography. On September 3rd, 2019 AVC hospital along with Merge Company hosted a hands-on seminar of “One Day Work shop: Tip & Trick for Abdominal Ultrasound Diagnosis”. Participants which are veterinary practitioners from Nakorn Si Thammarat and neighboring provinces said the seminar was attractive because of the practical part which is hard to find in the faraway province and the instructor is keen in teaching from his teaching experiences at Ludwig Maximillian University, Munich, Germany. Merge Company the main sponsor for this workshop was also generously provide ultrasound machines for all the participants to have chances in hands-on practice. AVC animal hospital aimed to be a reference center for veterinary work in Nakorn Si Thammarat and thriving to be affiliated institute for veterinary continuing education with the Thai Veterinary Council. There are more hands-on seminar to come e.g. exotic pet medicine, small animal orthopedic surgery, and others.

Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College’s Teaching Hospital, Walailak University with the Department of Livestock Development hold a seminar of “Knowing the disease, fighting the crisis  of African Swine Fever (ASF)”. The seminar was co-hosted by The The Southern Swine Farmer Association  and declared open by The director of the office of regional Livestock region 8 Dr.Sumate Methasart. There are almost 500 swine producers attended the seminar and gained  practical knowledge of current situation of the outbreak in Asia and neighboring countries around Thailand , ASF prevention and control measures, and contingency plans during the outbreak. All the swine producers could bring back the knowledge from the seminar to the farm and will have better preparedness for the threatening new disease which has no treatment and no vaccine.

Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College (AVC) welcomed a visiting professor namely Professor Doctor Norbert Menceke an outstanding veterinary parasitology researcher from Bayer Research Department of Bayer Compay, Germany. Prof.Mencke expert fields are in ectoparasite and protozoal drug development in various animal hosts. From this visit , Prof. Mencke have had a chance to discuss about AVC’s Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree curriculum with AVC dean Clinical Professor Dr.Suwichai Rochanasathien, visiting health sciences laboratories, lab animal facilities of Walalilak university. For the better understanding of the overall animal management in Nakorn Si Thammarat, AVC took Prof. Mencke for a study tour in bull fighting arena, real fighting cock event and practical ground for red-vented bulbul competition. Along with the visit, Prof.Mencke gave AVC students and staffs an inspiring lecture titled “How to conduct research in global perspective”. Prof. Mencke showed interested in applying to be future AVC permanent staff in 2020. From his background of publishing more than 100 publications plus patenting products, AVC has high hope in Prof.Mencke participation and mentorship to AVC young researchers to bring AVC to the next step of veterinary research world.

Class of 2018 of Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College (AVC) attended the subject VET 61-211 Basic Practical Skill which covers animal behavior, animal restraint, and physical examination topics in small animals, exotic pet species and food animals as well. The beauty of small class-size which AVC offers is the students can have more chances to practice and enhance their practical skills for future practice. This part of practical regimen is physical examination and sample collection from dogs. All students can perform basic physical examination in dogs including heart and lung auscultations, taking rectal temperature, and many other examinations. Sample collection part is taking blood samples from important blood vessels namely; cephalic vein, saphenous vein, femoral vein and jugular vein. At the end of the practical class, all of the 7 students were successfully perform blood collection. More than the successful outcomes, the students learned about their performances both the good sides, the mistake and the correction of those mistakes made. In the short future, the students will have more chances to practice in exotic animal species and farm animal species, as much as they have done in small animals.

26 Mar 2019, AVC arranged activities for prospective students and parents comprised of University and College’s VDO presentations, meet the vice president Assoc.Prof.Dr.Surin Maisreeklod, meet and talk with the dean Professor Dr. Suvichai Rochanasathien, meet with the hospital director Dr.Rattapan Pattanarangsan, living vet’s life in a simulation clinic, small animal teaching hospital tour, watching real operation of a surgical case and campus tour. The students and parents were impressed and aiming to enroll into AVC in the near future.

Ms.Linda Brokamp and Mr.Shuresh Staudacher the 6th year student from Veterinary Medicine University of Vienna, Austria are interested to have a practical training in the southern elephant hospital, The Thai Elephant Conservation Center under The Royal Pathronage.

Akkhraratchakumari Veterinary College (AVC) organized the training with close-mentoring by AVC staffs for the two vet students.

The arrangement of exchange student program is made possible under the strong collaboration of both universities. There will be more students of Vet. Med. Uni. of Vienna coming to have a training with us in terms of research projects, and practical training.

Dr. Elise Eileen Robertson, who is professional memberships in International Cat Care, European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy & World Endoscopy Organization (Human) and Comparative Gastrointestinal Society (Veterinary), visited Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College (AVC), Walailak University for academic and research diliberation with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Peerasak Suttiyotin (Acting for Dean), Dr. Rattapan Pattanarangsan (Director of animal teaching hospital), Dr. Phanlert Sakkaew (Lecturer) and Dr. Avirut Wongkumlue (Lecturer). Teaching cooperation and learner clinical practice such as Animal Medical Center in Kuala Lumper, Malaysia and Amber Cat Vet, Singapore will be discussed during met at small animal teaching hospital.

Dr. Elise Eileen Robertson discussed with us for teaching in small animals medicine and surgery technique improvement with the “Banraksunak, Walailak” model. In addition, she talked with the first batch of veterinary students to encourage veterinary science learning and another continent animal hospital devidened. Professor Katrin Hartmann and Dr. Stefan Unterer, lecturers from Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ludwig-Maximillians-Universitãt München, Germany and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supol Luengyosluechakul from Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University visited the Small Animal Teaching Hospital, Akkhraratchakumari Veterinary College (AVC) and the dog shelter in Walailak University. Very warm welcome from the Dean, Asst. Prof. Dr. Peerasak Suttiyotin, the lecturers and the “first group of Vet-WU students”.

Prof. Dr. Peerasak Suttiyotin, the Dean of AVC for seek the academic collaboration between Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ludwig-Maximillians-Universitãt München and Akkhraratchakumari Veterinary College, Walailak University.

Dr. Rattapan Pattanarangsan, lecturer of Akkhraratchakumari Veterinary College (AVC) along with lecturers from Walailak Unversity International College (WUIC) traveled and outreached the International Program students of Satri Phuket School for information of WU international courses and curriculum on Tuesday 21st August 2018 in Phuket porvince, Thailand.
