Fourth-year veterinary students at Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College, Walailak University, participated in a practical training session on “Paravertebral Nerve Block in Cattle” as part of the course VET65-454 Large Animal Surgery.

The activity was conducted under the close supervision of expert faculty members. Students practiced administering local anesthesia along the paravertebral nerves of cattle, a widely used technique in large animal surgery to ensure animal safety and reduce pain during surgical procedures.

This learning experience not only reinforced the students’ theoretical understanding but also provided them with essential hands-on skills crucial for their future veterinary practice. It helped build their confidence and preparedness for working in the field of large animal surgery.

The fourth-year students in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (International Program) at the Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College conducted laboratory sessions in aquatic animal anatomy. The lessons included studying anatomical features of various aquatic species such as blood cockles, green mussels, and crabs.

Students also practiced blood collection techniques in aquatic animals and learned the Diff-Quik staining method to examine the morphology and structure of blood cells—an essential process in diagnosing aquatic animal health. This practical training provides crucial veterinary knowledge while giving students hands-on experience and strengthening the skills necessary for their future veterinary careers.

On 13 June 2025, students from Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College joined thousands of first-year students across Walailak University for the exciting Freshman Welcome & Freshy Night WU 68 at Lan Talad Chan Pradu. The night was filled with warmth, laughter, and fun as seniors from 18 different clubs put on their very first performances, celebrating Thailand’s vibrant four-region cultures. The event was crowned with an energetic mini-concert by Musketeers, creating unforgettable memories for everyone involved. This lively celebration marked a perfect ending to the WU FRESH START 2025 program, bringing new and old friends closer together for the journey ahead.

On June 12 2025, Akkharatchakumari Veterinary College, Walailak University, held the WU Freshy (AVC 68) event to officially welcome new students. The atmosphere throughout the day was filled with smiles, fun, and bonding between senior and junior students. The activities began with a live lecture from the Academic Services Center on the topic of “Student Care System and Educational Regulations.” After that, new students had the opportunity to have close conversations with Professor Clinic Dr. Suwichai Rojanasathien, a visionary dean who provided guidance and inspiration for their veterinary journey. In the afternoon, there were ice-breaking activities, exciting base games, and group meetings with academic advisors, which helped to strengthen the bonds within the AVC family from the very first day at the university. “WU vet students explore the land of kangaroos!” From 17 to 30 May 2025, a group of 26 fourth-year students from Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College embarked on a two-week professional training program at James Cook University (JCU) in Queensland, Australia. This international externship provided a rare opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the care and study of native Australian wildlife.

During the program, students engaged in practical sessions across various fields including histology, microbiology, pathology, and necropsy. A key highlight was the opportunity to perform a post-mortem examination on a wallaby, allowing students to explore anatomy and pathology in a real-life context.

In addition to laboratory training, students also took part in a special conservation field trip focused on marine animals—particularly sea turtles—through collaboration with the Mint Sea Turtle Rescue Unit. This immersive fieldwork gave students firsthand experience in wildlife conservation efforts along the Australian coastline.

This program not only enriched students’ technical skills on an international scale but also inspired a deeper awareness of environmental protection and the importance of preserving endangered species. The experience marks a significant step toward shaping future veterinarians who are both competent and globally minded.

To help students prepare for the upcoming professional licensing exam, Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College recently held a computer-based mock examination for sixth-year students and recent graduates. The official exam, organized by the Veterinary Council of Thailand, is scheduled for 7–8 June 2025.

The mock exams took place on 28 and 31 May 2025, under the close supervision of faculty and staff. Prior to this, the college also organized intensive review sessions using actual exam-style questions to build students’ confidence and sharpen their problem-solving skills.
