On 10 May 2025 , Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College (International Program), Walailak University, held a welcoming event for first-year students and their parents at the Anatomy Building.

The event was honored by Professor (Clinical) Dr. Suwichai Rojanasathien, Dean of the College, who gave a warm welcome and introduced the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program. He also outlined the teaching and learning approaches, and discussed how the curriculum prepares students to become high-quality veterinarians.

The session provided an open forum for students and parents to ask questions about academics, student welfare, and university life. The Dean personally responded in a friendly and approachable manner, helping to ease concerns and build confidence among the attendees.

This event marked a meaningful beginning in fostering strong connections between the college, students, and their families—while also inspiring new students as they embark on their academic journey with clarity and confidence.

WU VETERINARY COLLEGE PARTNERS WITH THASALA MUNICIPALITY TO CONTINUE “DISEASE-FREE ANIMALS, SAFE PEOPLE” CAMPAIGN

On 15 May 2025, faculty members and students from Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College, Walailak University, joined hands with the Thasala Subdistrict Municipality to carry out the ongoing public service campaign “Disease-Free Animals, Safe People from Rabies.”

📍 The activity took place at the Thasala Subdistrict Municipality Office, Thasala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Local pet owners brought their dogs and cats for spaying/neutering services 🐶🐱, along with rabies vaccinations provided throughout the day.

The event received strong support from local residents, creating a warm atmosphere filled with smiles and compassion for their beloved pets. ✨

The Veterinary College extends its appreciation to Thasala Municipality for promoting this meaningful project and supporting the university’s mission in delivering public services to local communities—enhancing both human and animal well-being.

FOURTH-YEAR STUDENTS SET OFF FOR STUDY TOUR IN AUSTRALIA

WU vet students explore the land of kangaroos!” From 17 to 30 May 2025, a group of 26 fourth-year students from Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College embarked on a two-week professional training program at James Cook University (JCU) in Queensland, Australia. This international externship provided a rare opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the care and study of native Australian wildlife.

During the program, students engaged in practical sessions across various fields including histology, microbiology, pathology, and necropsy. A key highlight was the opportunity to perform a post-mortem examination on a wallaby, allowing students to explore anatomy and pathology in a real-life context.

In addition to laboratory training, students also took part in a special conservation field trip focused on marine animals—particularly sea turtles—through collaboration with the Mint Sea Turtle Rescue Unit. This immersive fieldwork gave students firsthand experience in wildlife conservation efforts along the Australian coastline.

This program not only enriched students’ technical skills on an international scale but also inspired a deeper awareness of environmental protection and the importance of preserving endangered species. The experience marks a significant step toward shaping future veterinarians who are both competent and globally minded

VETERINARY STUDENT P’Bua JOINS EXTERNSHIP AT CANBERRA VET HOSPITAL

P’Bua, a student from Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College, participated in an international student internship program and joined the externship at Canberra Vet Hospital, Australia. This opportunity allowed her to gain hands-on experience abroad, enhance her professional skills, and broaden her global perspective in veterinary medicine. We wish her a rewarding experience filled with new inspiration to become a skilled and compassionate veterinarian dedicated to all animals.

AKKHARARATCHAKUMARI VETERINARY HOSPITAL HOLDS ANNUAL MERIT-MAKING CEREMONY FOR 2025

On 6 April 2025, Associate Professor Dr. Sukanya Thongratskul, Director of the Veterinary Hospital, along with faculty members, veterinarians, staff, and students, jointly held the annual merit-making ceremony at the Small Animal Hospital Building, Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College, Walailak University.

The ceremony included inviting three Buddhist monks to perform the religious rites and dedicate merits to all living creatures. Alms food was also offered to the monks with the purpose of bringing good fortune and blessings to faculty, veterinarians, staff, students, and all patients receiving treatment.

This activity reflects the spirit of compassion and respect inherent in the veterinary profession, which is a core value of the Veterinary Hospital’s operations.

SELF-AUDIT 5S CONDUCTED AT SMALL ANIMAL HOSPITAL TO ENHANCE WORKPLACE QUALITY

On Friday, 4 April 2025, the Small Animal Hospital of Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College, Walailak University, conducted a Self-Audit under the 5S principles to assess the organization and readiness of its working environment.

The 5S principles—Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain—are designed to promote orderliness, cleanliness, safety, and efficiency in the workplace. This audit aimed to raise awareness among staff members about the importance of maintaining a well-organized and safe environment that supports effective veterinary services.

The audit received full cooperation from all personnel, reflecting their commitment and discipline in maintaining continuous improvements in accordance with the 5S system.

FIRST DAY AT AZABU UNIVERSITY: VET-WU STUDENTS BEGIN STUDY VISIT IN JAPAN

The morning of 17 March 2025, seventeen 3-4 year students from Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College arrived in Japan to begin their one-week veterinary study visit at Azabu University.

Under the guidance of Professor Yukio Morita, DVM, MS, Ph.D., the students are set to explore academic and cultural aspects of veterinary education throughout the week. Their first day began with a visit to The Life Museum of Azabu University, where they learned about the university’s long-standing history and legacy in veterinary science and education.

📸 The study visit promises to offer a meaningful learning experience, strengthening academic ties and broadening global perspectives for the students.

LAB PRACTICAL IN BODY STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION (BSF) COURSE, VETERINARY MEDICINE (INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM)

Students of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (International Program) at Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College, Walailak University, recently attended and participated in the practical course Body Structure and Function (BSF). This foundational veterinary course focuses on the knowledge of animal body structure and functions.

During the course, students studied the comparative anatomy of bones across various animal species to understand the structural and functional differences among them. This knowledge is essential to build a solid foundation for future diagnosis and treatment in veterinary practice.

Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College, Walailak University, continues to commit to curriculum development and teaching processes to ensure that students gain comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience, preparing them for effective veterinary professional practice.

AVC ADMINISTRATORS VISIT NIHON UNIVERSITY(JAPAN) TO STRENGTHEN ACADEMIC COLLABORATION

From 7–11 April 2025, Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College joined hands with the World Veterinary Service Foundation and the Khuan Phang Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO) in Ron Phibun District to carry out a community outreach program focused on spaying/neutering and rabies vaccination for dogs and cats. The initiative aligns with the university’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The program, held at the Khuan Phang SAO office, resulted in the sterilization of 128 animals: 57 female cats, 32 male cats, 30 female dogs, and 9 male dogs. A total of 156 animals—105 cats and 51 dogs—also received rabies vaccinations to help reduce disease risk and manage the local animal population.

The project was supported by funding from the college, the World Veterinary Service, and the local SAO. The field team included 7 faculty members, 23 veterinary students, and 7 veterinarians and staff from the foundation.

Beyond improving public health, the program highlighted the power of collaboration among government, academic, and civil society sectors in promoting sustainable and safe communities at the grassroots level.
